Garmin releases MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20 for free update

Garmin has made available MalSingMaps (MSM) Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20 for free update now.

You can click here to download the installation file of MalSingMaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20 from Garmin server. The file size is pretty huge, 742,884kb.

The installation program will update gmapprom1.img, gmapprom1.unl and SGMYMAL.JCV in your Garmin GPS navigator.

During the installation process, you'll be asked for the unlock key. The key is stored in the existing gmapprom1.unl file in your Garmin GPS navigator, which you can open with Notepad or any text editor. Just copy and paste the key to the installer when asked.

The size of SGMYMAL.JCV has increased tremendously to 352,764kb. Therefore, we can expect many more road junctions to have Junction View in Garmin with this map.

Version highlights:

  • Synchronize to Malsingmaps v4.08.
  • Extending more JCVs around Malaysia
  • Add new categories of Brand icons
  • Add more POIs, postal code data and lane information

Hi Michael,

You need to ensure that the file SGMYMAL.JCV is inside the JCV folder.

If your unit comes with both City Navigator map and MalSingMaps, you can only use one at the same time, or they will interfere with each other.

You can disable the City Navigator map by unchecking it in the Map setting.

The junction view of this new MalSingMaps is superb, JCV is available in many places, am I've seen some in Kajang as well.

Hi Michael, I just found your blog here about Garming GPS by internet search. I try to install this map into my 255W (bought from US), however I can't find my key, nor I can find that "gmapprom1.unl" file from my "Garmin“ folder, what's the problem on my GPS? Would you be able to help?
Can message to me via "iami2k@hotmail.com"?

Hi ilook,

The MSM map packaged by Garmin is only valid for selected GPS models sold in Singapore and Malaysia only.

You have a few options:

1. Use the non-locked MSM map. Download from here: http://www.malsingmaps.com/portal/

2. Become a member of MSM, contribute some POIs to them, and you'll be able to request for the unlock key from them.

3. Forget about MSM, and use MFM instead. MFM map is not locked. http://www.malfreemaps.com/
