31 Dec 2010 declared as Malaysia public holiday after winning the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup football match

Hot news!

The Malaysian squad has just beaten Indonesian team on 4-2 aggregate in the final of 2010 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

As a result, PM has declared 31 December 2010 (Friday) as Malaysia public holiday.

My company does not recognize it as PH. Based on the 60D Malaysian Employment Act, 1955 private companies can reject the announced 31st Dec 2010 PH entirely and solely because it is not a gazetted holiday.

i already confirmed with labour department..they said tomorrow is compulsary to give a holiday for government or private company..if not, they must replace the holiday to others day..if not as well they have to paid the salary for tomorrow 2+1..thank you

Do you all know that Malaysian economy tends to lose Billions of Ringgits into the drain just because Malaysia won the Suzuki Cup? What is that to be proud of when we actually lost 2-1 to the Indonesian? Winning by aggregate is just a calculation of pride only. Just like when you lost your by-election by 1 vote this time, you still be counted as LOST. (No...No..., I won by few thousand votes last time, I still consider myself to be the WINNER).

Coming back to my original question where I mentioned Malaysian Economy tends to lose Billions.
1. Malaysian Population 27 millions. Working Population just let say, 10 millions.
10,000,000 people X by RM50-00 a day (roughly) = RM500,000,000-00 of wages (Employers money gone).
2. Malaysian employers expenditure on fixed costs like Rental of Premises and Machineries, wasted electricity, water, utilities etc. comes to Billions of Ringgit gone.
3. Malaysian Incomes of Companies also gone by Billions.
4. Govt. Tax Collections also 'kurang' by 28 percent of the Malaysian Companies Corporation Tax for a day.
5. Many many others all gone to waste just because of one day holiday.

Conclusion:
What do people gain?
1. Working population shiok loh....just do less work....became more and more lazy.
2. Employers die loh......lost milions of ringgit in a day.
3. Govt. don't come out and complain and accuse Companies paying less tax this year.

MY VOICE : TOTALLY AGAINST.

Hi, i think i can clarify yours doubts.

This is a compulsory holiday. Please refer employment act, Section 60D(1)(B) and Holiday Act 1951 Sec 8.

If your boss refuse to announce as PH, they have to pay you double or give you a replacement leave.

Employment Act apply to all sector for those salary under RM1500. If more than RM1500, you have to follow your company policy (as you agreed when you sign your appointment letter).

I totally agreed that this is s****d decision just to pl*as* MOST of the stake holders who can only see what is right before them and not the future. "Masuk Kandang Kambing Mengembik, Masuk Kandang Kerbau Menguak" is easier to say than do. We, employer, feel like we are literally asked to mengembik...if you're longsighted enough, you will see that the current policies are very much against promoting a healthy economy in Malaysia. I fancy the vision set by our prime minister to become a high salary paying country. However, I don't see any current policies supporting this vision. You see ah niu already enough...do you really think employers really want to stay in Malaysia? It's just that we have no choice and we happen to be born here and start our business here. Those successful one like our sugar king and uncle lims', see where they are focusing? There are many phenomenons around, just look around and be critic thinking. As a Malaysian, I'm angry and sad and helpless. Angry because I see the things are not right. Sad because I can't do anything. Helpless because no one can really help you. Everyone is doing for the sake of politic.

Next time ask government if want announce PH please add in the word "Compulsory". if not, sure all the boss dun give their staff enjoy this special PH. Know lar, boss only know how to earn money how they care all their staff.

Govt should bear the cost of PH for private sectors so that they would not simply declare PH as and when they like just to gain popularity and votes.

Private sectors should demand for a day's wage from the person who declare. It's only a south east asian game not even world. What if it is a world game? 2 days PH?

hmmm very interesting thread!! btw, if leave has been taken on this day, can the employee claim replacement holiday? If yes, is it stated in any of the acts (Employment, Holiday, etc.)? Need some B&W to show HR..
